Dex becomes fixated on Kat and begins stalking her, eventually winning her over with his charm. As Kat delves into the mystery of her mother's murder, she uncovers Dex's dark secret and leaves him. However, Dex continues to watch over her from afar and ultimately helps her solve the mystery. When Kat learns the truth, she embraces her darker side and seeks revenge on her mother's killer with Dex's help. The two embark on a murderous journey together, eloping and indulging in a spree of violence. The novel explores themes of obsession, love, and the blurred lines between good and evil.
